Comelec upholds PBBM's cancellation for misrepresentation

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has upheld the cancellation of Pilipinas Babangon Muli (PBBM) party-list's registration for the May 16 elections.

In April, Comelec’s Second Division cancelled PBBM's registration due to misrepresentation, as the group claimed to represent Calabarzon despite none of its top ten nominees being residents of the region.

Comelec denied PBBM's motion for reconsideration in a ten-page decision, affirming that the party violated requirements by fielding members from Abra, Cagayan, and Quezon City.

The poll body highlighted that PBBM made untruthful statements in their petition when they accepted nominees outside of Calabarzon Region.

PBBM has now announced it will challenge its disqualification before the Supreme Court, arguing that having officers and nominees from outside CALABARZON did not alter its regional character as a party representing Calabarzon.
