Comelec removes nearly 694K names from voter list for midterms

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has removed nearly 694,000 names from the voter list to clean it up before next year's midterm elections.

Of these deletions, 249,343 were due to deaths certified by Local Civil Registrars, while 220,644 voters opted for transfers to other cities or municipalities.

The Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) identified and removed 179,141 cases of double registration, and another 42,236 voters were deleted as they applied to become overseas voters.

Additionally, the Comelec eliminated 2,194 duplicate entries from the list.

As of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, the total number of registered voters stood at 67,839,861.
