Comelec may extend OVCS enrollment deadline

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering extending the enrollment period for the online voting and counting system (OVCS), which currently runs until May 7.

Chairman George Garcia stated that the initial early start of the enrollment period was to accommodate more registered voters, particularly Filipinos living or working abroad.

Garcia urged overseas voters to enroll and cast their votes ahead of the deadline to avoid last-minute issues.

As of now, 77 posts abroad will use the OVCS for the May 12 midterm elections, while the remaining 16 Philippine Embassies and Consulates General will use automated counting machines.

Comelec data shows that a total of 117,778 overseas voters have enrolled so far, with voting set to take place from April 13 to May 12 for national positions including senators and party-list organizations.
