Alice Guo plans to run for Bamban mayor again despite dismissal

Alice Guo plans to run for mayor of Bamban, Tarlac again despite being dismissed and facing multiple legal issues.

Guo's lawyer Stephen David confirmed that her client can still file her certificate of candidacy (COC) this week through a representative as the local Commission on Elections office in Bamban will accept her COC for the 025 national elections.

The Comelec, however, could block Guo from running due to her dismissal by the Office of the Ombudsman and the ban on reentering government service.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada emphasized that only real Filipinos are entitled to run for office, while Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra said Guo could still file her certificate of candidacy.

Election lawyer Romulo Macalintal argued that Comelec's power to cancel a COC is limited and does not apply to administrative cases decided by the Ombudsman pending appeal.
