Comelec extends Marcos deadline to answer petition

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) extended Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.'s deadline to answer a petition seeking to cancel his presidential candidacy.

Lawyers for the petitioner questioned COMELEC's decision, calling it unprecedented and inconsistent with its rules.

COMEMLEC spokesperson James Jimenez said Marcos' camp likely guessed that their motion for extension would be granted before it was officially approved.

Jimenez clarified that the Comelec Second Division only issued the extension around midday Thursday, despite earlier claims by Marcos' spokesman Vic Rodriguez.
