Comelec cancels Marcy Teodoro's rep candidacy over residency issues

On Wednesday, December 11, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) canceled Marikina City Mayor Marcelino 'Marcy' Teodoro's certificate of candidacy for Marikina 1st district representative due to material misrepresentation regarding his place of residence.

The Comelec First Division granted petitions filed by Senator Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel III and Leighrich Estanislao, stating that Teodoro failed to prove he was a resident of the 1st district for at least one year prior to the May 2025 elections.

Despite this decision, Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that it is not yet final and executory as Teodoro has five days to file a motion for reconsideration.

Garcia also noted that if an MR is filed and the en banc deliberation does not conclude before January 6, Teodoro's name would still appear on the ballot but votes for him would be considered stray votes.

Teodoro submitted notarized legal documents showing his residence in Barangay Tumana in Marikina's 2nd district and could not convincingly demonstrate his physical residency in the 1st district despite presenting other supporting documents.
