COMELEC cancels Duterte Youth party-list registration

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Second Division cancelled the registration of Duterte Youth as a party-list organization on Wednesday, citing non-compliance with accreditation requirements.

Chairperson George Garcia stated that the 2-1 decision strips Duterte Youth of its rights and privileges, potentially affecting votes from the May elections.

Kabataan Party-list welcomed the Comelec's ruling, stating it is a positive step towards ensuring genuine representation for marginalized sectors including the youth.

The division's decision was based on allegations of failing to meet publication and hearing processes as well as issues with funding from the National Youth Commission.

Duterte Youth may still file a motion for reconsideration within five days but remains premature to disclose what will happen to seat allocation in the 20th Congress, given that Duterte Youth secured three congressional seats after garnering over 2.3 million votes in the 2025 midterm elections.
