Comelec adds 42 seats for provincial boards in May NLE

A total of 42 additional seats for provincial board members will be available in the May 12, 2025 national and local elections (NLE) due to changes made by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The Comelec issued Comelec Resolution No. 11085, which adjusted vacant provincial board seats based on a Department of Finance order updating income classifications for 22 provinces.

This adjustment includes an increase in the number of seats in 21 provinces and a decrease in Maguindanao del Norte from 10 to eight seats.

Provinces like Abra, Batanes, Southern Leyte, Camiguin, Davao Occidental, Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi will each gain two additional seats following their upgrades in classification.

The Local Government Code dictates that first and second-class provinces have 10 provincial board members, third and fourth-class provinces have eight, and fifth and sixth-class provinces have six.
