Coin toss decides tie for Solano municipal councilor

A tie in the race for senior municipal councilor in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya was resolved with a coin toss on Monday.

Optometrist Clifford Tito and businessman Thomas Dave Santos each received 13,451 votes during the midterm election, up from the initial report of 1,351 votes.

Both candidates were running for the position for the first time and engaged in friendly banter before the decision was made.

According to the Commission on Elections, ties in elections can be settled by drawing lots or a coin toss under Section 240 of the Omnibus Election Code.

Santos, aged 27, won the coin toss and became the youngest municipal councilor of Solano, beating 21 other candidates.
