Coast Guard finds human remains in Taal Lake during search for missing cockfighters

The Philippine Coast Guard discovered a skull and other human remains in Taal Lake on Tuesday, July 29, as part of an ongoing search for missing cockfighting enthusiasts.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla stated that dental records could expedite the identification process, though DNA testing would still be conducted by the Philippine National Police.

Remulla noted that a new witness has emerged to bolster whistleblower Julie Patidongan's credibility and provide real evidence.

The justice secretary also confirmed that a police official from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group was relieved of duty following allegations against Patidongan.

Around 30 individuals have been reported missing since 2021 due to alleged game fixing in online cockfighting, though some sources suggest there may be more cases.

Groups are reportedly trying to influence the investigation into twelve police officers linked to the disappearance cases.
