COA finds P1.33B in errors, dead listed in PhilHealth

The Commission on Audit (COA) identified data inaccuracies affecting around 1.3 million senior citizens' records in PhilHealth's database as of December 2023, including over 250,000 duplicate entries and more than 4,000 deceased individuals still listed.

These errors led to an estimated P1.333 billion in unnecessary government subsidies. COA verified with hospitals that thousands of dead beneficiaries were being billed to the Department of Budget and Management.

PhilHealth acknowledged these issues and is working on cleaning up its database by deploying a new Member Portal for online registration and updates planned for Q4 2024.
