UAAP Season 87 football tourney starts with FEU-D defending title

The upcoming UAAP Season 87 High School Boys' Football Tournament will kick off on January 18 at UP Diliman Football Stadium with Claret and Southridge joining powerhouse squads such as Far Eastern University-Diliman, the 12-time defending champions.

Southridge will face UST Junior Golden Booters in the opening game at 2 p.m., while Claret Red Roosters will take on FEU-D Baby Tamaraws at 7 p.m. in their league debut.

FEU coach Albert Besa expressed enthusiasm for the inclusion of guest schools, stating it will raise the level of football competition and provide valuable experience.

Claret's coach Feb Baya emphasized defensive stability as a key strategy against FEU-D, while Southridge spent four months training to prepare for UST with practice matches included.

The tournament features six teams in a Final Four system format, aiming to develop young players' exposure and experience across Metro Manila.
