CIDG seizes PHP1.6M smuggled cigarettes, arrests driver Joey

Authorities in Palawan seized smuggled cigarettes worth PHP1.6 million and arrested a driver identified only as 'Joey' for violating customs laws on Wednesday.

CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III confirmed that Joey was apprehended while transporting 100 master cases of Fort Green cigarettes without proper documentation.

The Isuzu panel truck used by the suspect, which lacked license plates, was also confiscated during the operation.

Joey now faces charges before the National Prosecution Service for violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

CIDG emphasized their commitment to combating smuggling and economic sabotage and urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
