CICC warns of deepfake video falsely endorsing Marcos Jr.

On Tuesday, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) warned the public about a deepfake video circulating on social media falsely depicting President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. endorsing an online trading platform.

The CICC confirmed that the video was posted by a Facebook page called 'Inquirer PH Insider,' which previously operated under the name 'Deborah Webb' and is managed from overseas, directing users to an unrelated e-commerce site.

Technical analysis revealed that deepfake technology using AI-based manipulation was employed to alter visual elements and simulate the President's endorsement, aiming to deceive the public.

The original video has since been taken down on Facebook after coordination with the social media platform.

The CICC continues to monitor threats of this nature and urges the public to critically assess claims made in online advertisements, especially those involving public officials or exaggerated promises.

The Presidential Communications Office announced plans to establish a National Deepfake Task Force in collaboration with various government offices to address disinformation campaigns targeting the government and individuals.
