Chiz Escudero urges Senate to follow SC ruling on VP Sara Duterte impeachment

Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero reiterated his view that the Senate should adhere to the Supreme Court's decision declaring the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional.

During a press conference, Escudero emphasized that the Senate will make its collective decision but personally sees no reason not to follow the SC ruling.

The Supreme Court ruled on July 25 with a unanimous 13-0 vote that the articles of impeachment were null and void from the start due to constitutional violations.

Escudero noted that discussing the matter is inevitable during the scheduled senators' caucus, despite it not being on the agenda.

He suggested that the Senate should decide without convening an impeachment court because doing so after the SC's ruling might be seen as a violation of the constitution and could lead to a crisis.
