Chinese research vessels near Bajo de Masinloc in West Philippine Sea

Two Chinese research vessels, Xiang Yang Hong 10 and Zhu Hai Yun, were operating near Bajo de Masinloc in the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday.

Xiang Yang Hong 10 arrived on August 15, while Zhu Hai Yun arrived three days later on August 18.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela confirmed that these ships entered the Philippines' exclusive economic zone (EEZ) on July 25 and are now back at Bajo de Masinloc.

Four China Coast Guard ships have been illegally positioned around the shoal since August 11, when a collision occurred between Chinese and Philippine vessels near the area.

Tensions remain high as Beijing continues to claim almost all of the South China Sea, including parts claimed by the Philippines.
