Para javelin thrower Cendy Asusano finishes fourth at Paris Paralympics

Para javelin thrower Cendy Asusano finished fourth in the women's javelin throw F54 event at the Paris Paralympics on Saturday, September 7.

Despite setting a new personal best of 15.05 meters on her first attempt, Asusano expressed pride and satisfaction with her performance despite not securing a medal for Team Philippines.

Uzbekistan's Nurkhon Kurbanova won gold with a world record throw of 21.12 meters, followed by silver and bronze winners from Nigeria and Iran respectively.

Asusano was named the flag bearer of the Philippines in the closing ceremony of the Paris Para Games due to her fourth-place finish, which is the best result among the six Filipino athletes competing in the Games.

The Philippines concluded its campaign at the 2024 Paris Paralympics without securing a medal, with notable performances including swimmer Angel Mae Otom who placed fifth and sixth in her events.

Asusano's throw of 15.05 meters was unexpected even to herself, as she had never achieved this distance during training.
