Cebu City treasurer vacancy causes salary delays

The absence of a formally appointed city treasurer in Cebu City has caused delays in financial transactions and salary disbursements.

Councilor Dave Tumulak confirmed that barangay-based responders have not received their ?5,000 honoraria for June and July, while other government employees at Cebu City Hall are also affected.

Tumulak noted that pending the BLGF's approval, city purchases and financial disbursements remain on hold due to the lack of a treasurer.

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. visited the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) to request the appointment of a new city treasurer and personnel authorized to sign checks in the interim.

Former city treasurer Emma Villarete has been recommended as the replacement, but her official appointment is pending BLGF approval.

The delays stem from the dismissal of Mare Vae Fernandez Reyes by the Office of the Ombudsman on February 4, 2025, due to involvement in a ?239.7-million garbage collection scam.
