CA confirms Jonvic Remulla as DILG secretary

The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed Jonvic Remulla's ad interim appointment as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday.

During the plenary session, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri welcomed Remulla’s appointment, highlighting his plans to enhance efficiency in local government units through digitalization, expand the unified 911 emergency response system, introduce organizational reforms within the Philippine National Police, and ensure peaceful elections in 2025.

Senator Loren Legarda noted Remulla's extensive experience of over 23 years as an elected official, emphasizing his vision for modernizing governance and providing efficient public services.

During the confirmation hearing, Remulla reiterated plans to streamline the police organization by reducing the number of generals from 153 to less than 100. He also intends to address questions on the computation of the internal revenue allotment (IRA).

Remulla’s appointment follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s decision last October to replace Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, who will run for senator in the 2025 mid-term polls.
