500 PDLs transferred from New Bilibid to San Ramon

A total of 500 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City were transferred to the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City on Sunday, March 16.

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) stated that this transfer is part of a decongestion plan for NBP with an ultimate goal of closing it by 2028.

Led by Chief Inspector Henry Avila, 141 BuCor personnel escorted the PDLs from two camps at NBP: 56 from the Maximum Security Camp and 444 from the Medium Security Camp.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. announced plans to transfer more Bilibid PDLs to other facilities in April, including 300 each to Palawan Prison and Sablayan Prison, and another 300 to Davao Prison.

This systematic redistribution aims to reduce congestion at NBP while maintaining humane treatment and rehabilitation programs for inmates.
