BuCor orders singlets, water supply amid rising heat

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. ordered the procurement of singlets and a consistent supply of water in all facilities on Tuesday amid rising heat indices.

Catapang instructed CT/CSupt. Ma Cecilia Villanueva, acting director for Health and Welfare Services, to prepare accordingly as the country transitions from rainy to dry season.

Villanueva directed health service chiefs across BuCor to monitor and implement preventive measures against summer diseases within 24 hours.

The memorandum issued by Villanueva includes warnings about common heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, exhaustion, and stroke, which pose significant health risks when the heat index is between 42°C and 51°C.

BuCor adopted health tips from the Health Department to ensure preventive actions are taken to safeguard the well-being of persons deprived of liberty during the dry season.
