PNP-SAF deployed at Sablayan prison to boost security, confiscate contraband

Seventy-six members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Forces (PNP-SAF) have been deployed at Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro to enhance security, as directed by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. instructed Deputy Director for Operations Gil Torralba to oversee the arrival of the SAF personnel on Monday.

The operation led by Torralba resulted in the confiscation of nine cellphones, tobacco products, cellphone chargers, and sixteen bladed weapons.

Various law enforcement agencies, including PNP, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), participated in the operation to address issues related to contraband.

These measures highlight BuCor's commitment to maintaining order and improving security protocols within penal facilities, reflecting a united front among different agencies to ensure safety for staff and inmates.

BuCor is also transferring persons deprived of liberty from New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City ahead of its closure by 2028.
