BPI ends direct 'Load E-Wallet' for GCash, Maya; new P25 fee applies

Starting February 13, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) will no longer offer direct 'Load E-Wallet' for GCash and Maya via its mobile app.

Users must now use the 'Transfer to Other Banks' feature with a new P25 fee, up from the previous P10 convenience charge.

This change aligns with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) regulations requiring standardized interbank funds transfer systems like InstaPay and PesoNet for loading BSP-regulated e-wallets.

Digital advocacy group Digital Pinoys has urged BPI to reconsider its decision, citing higher costs for users and potential hindrance to digitalization efforts.

While direct loading remains available for some other e-wallets not under the same BSP regulations, GCash and Maya users will now need to follow this new process.
