BIR intensifies digital tax services for April 15 deadline

As the April 15 income tax filing deadline approaches, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has intensified its digital services and extended banking hours to simplify the process for taxpayers.

Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. emphasized that there will be no extension of the deadline and encouraged the public to use electronic facilities such as eLounges at RDOs and authorized agent banks with extended hours until 5 p.m. on April 12.

Taxpayers are advised to file online through the Electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS) or get electronic forms from the BIR website, www.bir.gov.ph.

Micro and small taxpayers have the option to use old BIR forms 1701 and 1701-A for filing in eLounges if they do not wish to file online with new forms.

The BIR also offers manual filing options using updated form 1701 MS, but taxpayers are reminded that late filings incur a 12 percent interest and a 25 percent surcharge.
