Sen Nancy Binay calls for reassessment of P64 daily food poverty threshold

Senator Nancy Binay called on the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to reassess the current food poverty threshold of P64 per day due to rising costs.

Binay highlighted that this threshold is inadequate, citing issues such as poor nutrition and an increase in kidney disease cases linked to unhealthy diets.

The senator also pointed out that Nutribun, a nutritious bread aimed at combating malnutrition, now costs P40, making it unaffordable for many Filipinos.

During an interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo, Binay emphasized the need for more accurate figures on poverty and food poverty to address these issues effectively.

She urged NEDA and the Philippine Statistics Authority to examine and study the issue further, noting that legislators require precise data to allocate funds in the 2025 budget.
