Binay calls for scrutiny of PhilHealth funds and healthcare PPP reforms

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay expressed disappointment over the misuse of government funds intended for healthcare improvements during a radio interview on Wednesday, April 30.

Binay highlighted that PhilHealth funds and 'sin tax' revenues remain underutilized despite annual appropriations, emphasizing the need to scrutinize these issues in the Senate.

She proposed redirecting portions of financial assistance programs like AICS and AKAP to provide free maintenance medicines instead of cash benefits.

The mayor emphasized the need for legislative reforms to streamline the Public Private Partnership (PPP) approval process, citing Makati's successful healthcare PPP projects as an example.

Binay called for the PPP Center to serve as a repository rather than a gatekeeper to encourage more local government units to pursue PPP initiatives without bureaucratic delays.
