Bicol confirms first coronavirus cases in Masbate town

Mandaon town in Masbate confirmed its first two coronavirus cases on Thursday, July 9 – a 4-year-old boy and a 29-year-old woman who traveled from Subic, Zambales.

Both individuals are asymptomatic and quarantined in an isolation facility in their town.

The new cases bring the total number of COVID-19 cases in Bicol to 208, with 117 active cases.

On Wednesday, July 8, Bicol recorded its highest spike in coronavirus cases with 24 new confirmed infections, all involving returning residents from other regions.

All of these new cases are LSIs (locally stranded individuals) who returned from NCR and Calabarzon, leading the regional IATF to request suspension of LSI returns due to rising case numbers and limited quarantine facilities.
