BI arrests South Korean fugitive for telecom fraud

A South Korean fugitive wanted for alleged involvement in telecommunications fraud has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Paranaque City.

The 24-year-old suspect, Park Seungeon, was apprehended on February 27 along Bradco Avenue and is now detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa pending deportation proceedings.

Park is an overstaying alien who had evaded arrest and prosecution for over two years since entering the Philippines as a tourist on August 19, 2022.

An Interpol red notice was issued against him after a warrant of arrest was issued by the Incheon district court in Seoul due to his alleged involvement in a telecom fraud syndicate that embezzled more than 20.1 million won from victims.

Upon deportation, Park will be included in the BI immigration blacklist, preventing him from re-entering the Philippines.
