BI launches APIS this month to enhance border security

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to launch the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) this month to enhance border security and streamline immigration processes.

APIS will allow authorities to screen passengers before their arrival, improving risk assessment and facilitating legitimate travel.

Major airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are conducting pilot tests with the system in coordination with service providers.

Connectivity tests with INTERPOL's I-24/7 database have been successful, ensuring access to international security watchlists for enhanced monitoring.

The BI is collaborating with stakeholders such as INTERPOL and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UN OCT) to integrate APIS seamlessly into existing systems.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that APIS will strengthen security and provide a more efficient travel experience for passengers.
