BI arrests US drug trafficker Henry Watkins, Egyptian national Bakhit Akram

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Saturday announced the arrest of an American fugitive named Henry Watkins, 51, for overstaying and alleged drug trafficking.

Watkins was apprehended at his residence in Barangay Ubaliw, Polangui, Albay, with assistance from US authorities who sought BI's cooperation. He acted as an enforcer for the Devil's Disciples motorcycle gang in Chicago, Illinois, using violence to collect drug proceeds.

He is wanted by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for links to the Sinaloa drug cartel and charged with large-scale drug trafficking involving methamphetamine and heroin.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that Watkins will be deported for overstaying and being an undesirable alien, stressing the Philippines' commitment to not serve as a sanctuary for individuals involved in illegal drugs.

Additionally, BI operatives arrested an Egyptian national, Bakhit Akram Mnayer Gouda, 37, in Barangay Igualdad, Naga City on March 19 for overstaying and violations of local laws.

Gouda faces complaints for direct assault against a police officer and immoral acts that violate the Safe Spaces Act.

Both individuals will be deported, according to BI.
