US citizen convicted of child sex offenses arrested in Manila

A 67-year-old American man, James Russel Munson, who was convicted of child sex offenses in the United States, has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration's fugitive search unit along Roxas Boulevard in Manila’s Ermita district.

According to Philippine law, foreign nationals previously convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude, such as registered sex offenders, are prohibited from entering or staying in the Philippines.

The arrest is part of Project #ShieldKids, an intensified campaign against sexual predators and other foreign nationals who pose a risk to public safety, particularly children.

Munson will face deportation proceedings and be blacklisted following his arrest.
