Bersamina secures second in Bangkok Chess Open

International Master Paulo Bersamina secured second place at the Bangkok Chess Club Open in Thailand on Monday, April 22.

Bersamina achieved an unbeaten record with seven and a half points out of nine, including six wins and a crucial victory over Ukrainian Grandmaster Vitaliy Bernadskiy in the final round.

Although he did not secure a GM norm, his performance provided a morale boost as he aims for a World Cup slot in the Asian Zonals starting this weekend in Mongolia.

The competition saw Bersamina earn 15.4 rating points, increasing his rating from 2411 to 2426.4.

Another Filipino player, International Master Michael Concio Jr., finished fifth overall after tiebreaks were applied, tying for third place with seven points.
