Bam Aquino pledges monthly salary and PhilHealth for village watchmen, barangay health workers

Senatorial aspirant Bam Aquino pledged to push for a monthly salary and PhilHealth coverage for village watchmen and barangay health workers if elected.

During a meeting with these frontline workers in Naga City on Thursday, April 10, Aquino emphasized the importance of recognizing their contributions and proposed providing them with free training and legal services when needed.

Aquino stressed that it is time to properly value these community helpers rather than treating them as volunteers, noting that under the Local Government Code of 1991, barangay officials only receive an honorarium and not a fixed monthly salary.

Former vice president Leni Robredo, who is running for mayor in Naga City, joined Aquino during his campaign visit.

Aquino has previously filed a similar bill in 2016 but it did not see any progress in the Senate.
