DOTr supports Bacolod's e-jeepney program during Dizon’s visit

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) fully supports Bacolod City's initiative to showcase its electric jeepney program under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program during Secretary Vince Dizon’s visit on Friday, April 25.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon praised Mayor Albee Benitez and his team for their proactive approach in implementing modernized e-jeepneys and encouraged other local governments to follow Bacolod's lead.

CPMPC has acquired 10 units of e-jeepneys from e-Future Motors Philippines, with five deployed last year and another five received recently; the city aims to set a benchmark for public transport modernization.

The City Planning and Development Office held consultations on the Local Public Transport Route Plan to address challenges in the transportation sector, including discussions on transitioning to electric vehicles and establishing charging stations.

Dizon emphasized the need for balance between protecting existing operators while allowing new entrants into the program, highlighting financial difficulties faced by drivers and operators during the transition.

Bacolod currently operates 605 modernized jeepneys and 1,200 traditional units, with plans to review policies on consolidation under the PUVMP framework to make it more practical for drivers.
