Bacolod removes 26,105 kg of waste from Mambuloc Creek

The city government of Bacolod City is urging residents to participate in flood mitigation efforts after removing 26,105 kilograms (or about three full garbage trucks) of waste from Mambuloc Creek on Thursday, July 10.

Mayor Greg Gasataya personally oversaw the cleanup operation and emphasized that maintaining clean waterways is a shared responsibility and requires sustained civic involvement for long-term success.

The haul consisted mostly of household garbage and plastic debris collected as part of the city's intensified flood mitigation campaign targeting high-risk areas such as Barangays 2, 8, and 10.

Gasataya stressed that while engineering interventions like installing catch nets are planned, public discipline is crucial to prevent recurring pollution and flooding.

The mayor urged residents to take an active role in protecting the environment, noting that cooperation is key to ensuring clean waterways and preventing future environmental degradation.
