Ateneo's Russel Je Ricaforte breaks 34-year-old discus throw record

Ateneo's 24-year-old track star Russel Je Ricaforte recently broke a 34-year-old national discus throw record with a throw of 54.14 meters at the PATAFA weekly relays in Manila.

Ricaforte surpassed the previous record of 52.10 meters set by Fidel Repizo in the 1991 Southeast Asian Games, and also exceeded the silver medal standard from the Phnom Penh edition two years ago.

The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) is now processing Ricaforte's paperwork to officially include him in the national team.

PATAFA Secretary-General Jasper Tanhueco confirmed that Ricaforte was endorsed last July, with the association currently finalizing requirements for the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Ricaforte's impressive performance underscores his potential as a key member of the national track and field team.
