Army arrests NPA leader Edward Flores in Cagayan de Oro

On Thursday, June 5, government forces arrested Edward Flores, the alleged head of the New People's Army (NPA) in Soccsksargen region during a joint military and police operation in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.

Flores, also known by his aliases Cess, Ruby, Rafa, and Ramon, was accused of leading NPA rebels in the Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR) under the jurisdiction of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID).

During his arrest, Flores was found with a .45 caliber pistol, a fragmentation grenade, and a smartphone believed to contain sensitive communication data.

Brigadier General Michael Santos stated that Flores' arrest is a significant blow to NPA operations in the region where the Army's 703rd Infantry Brigade operates, emphasizing ongoing efforts to dismantle NPA activities through neutralizing leaders and members as well as arresting high-value targets like Flores.

Flores faces multiple criminal charges including murder and violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, with cases filed in Tagum City, Surallah, Isulan, and other locations.
