Alvarez loses VP bid to Jubahib in Davao del Norte

Outgoing Davao del Norte 1st District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez lost the vice governor bid in his province to Clarice Jubahib, the daughter of former ally Edwin Jubahib, on Tuesday, May 13.

Based on partial and unofficial results as of Wednesday, May 14, Alvarez received 136,239 votes (18.99%), placing him third in a race where Lakas' Tete So is second with 166,489 votes (23.21%).

Jubahib's victory marks the end of Alvarez's three consecutive terms as lawmaker and signals a rift between him and Jubahib, who used to be his personal assistant.

Alvarez’s political journey includes serving as speaker of the House under former president Rodrigo Duterte before falling out with him in 2024 when he called on the Armed Forces to abandon President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Despite endorsing Leni Robredo for president in 2022, Alvarez remains a controversial figure within his party and has faced disciplinary action from colleagues over alleged seditious remarks.
