Alternergy gets COA for 150MW wind project in Albay

Renewable energy firm Alternergy Holdings Corp. has received a Certificate of Authority (COA) from the Department of Energy (DOE) for its new onshore wind power project in Albay.

The COA allows Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp., a subsidiary of Alternergy, to conduct feasibility studies and permitting processes over three years with potential conversion into a 25-year wind energy service contract if deemed commercially viable.

Once completed, the project is expected to generate at least 150 megawatts (MW) across approximately 6,318 hectares in Albay.

Knud Hedeager, president of AWHC, thanked Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla and the DOE for supporting developers through the COA framework, which he described as a landmark policy initiative.

In addition to its work in Albay, Alternergy is currently constructing wind projects in Tanay, Rizal, and Alabat, Quezon, with plans to develop new renewable energy projects beyond its Road to 500 MW goal by 2026.
