Alex Eala withdraws from Cincinnati Open due to shoulder injury

Filipina tennis player Alex Eala has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a minor shoulder injury, as announced by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on Thursday.

Eala will miss the final WTA 1000 event before the US Open, which runs from August 24 to September 7, and Mexico’s Renata Zarazua will replace her in the main draw.

Earlier this week, Eala competed in Montreal but had to call for a medical timeout during her match against Marketa Vondrousova due to shoulder pain and subsequently lost in the first round with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 2-6.

Despite the loss, Eala expressed gratitude on Instagram for her experience in Montreal and emphasized the importance of rest and recovery.

Following the Cincinnati Open, Eala is set to compete in the Monterrey Open in Mexico.
