Aguto wins Batanes governor race, Cayco reelected

Ronald 'Jun' Aguto Jr., a former National Bureau of Investigation official and candidate for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), won the gubernatorial race in Batanes on May 12.

Aguto secured victory with 3,947 votes over his rival Medardo 'Jun' Abad Jr., who received 3,738 votes, a margin of only 209 votes.

Incumbent LP congresswoman Marilou Cayco retained her seat against the NPC's Ciriaco Gato Jr. with 7,380 votes compared to Cayco's 3,785, despite Aguto and his running mate Uyugan Mayor Jonathan Nanud Jr.'s efforts to unseat her.

Aguto campaigned on issues such as health, education, and peace and order, leveraging his cybersecurity expertise gained from a 22-year career at the NBI.

Abad conceded defeat, thanking Ivatans for their support during his campaign despite losing by a narrow margin.
