PNP deploys police to VPSPG amid security concerns

The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed 25 police personnel to the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) on Tuesday at the request of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. confirmed during a speech at the AFP Leadership Summit that they received a subpoena from the PNP calling members of the VPSPG for investigation.

Brawner emphasized that new military and police personnel will temporarily replace current VPSPG members due to security concerns raised by the ongoing investigation, leaving the group without personnel until replacements are in place.

The vice president's security is paramount, Brawner explained, as any incident involving her could lead to political chaos given recent statements about potential actions against government officials.

Colonel Raymund Dante Lachica, chief of the VPSPG, would also be replaced because he is being subpoenaed by the Quezon City Police District following a criminal complaint filed over the weekend.
