ADB launches SUN PH 2 to train Filipino workers in key sectors
The Philippines launched SkillsUpNet Philippines Phase 2 (SUN PH 2), an initiative aimed at advancing the skills of Filipino workers across key strategic sectors.
ADB Country Director Pavit Ramachandran, DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque, and TESDA Director General Jose Francisco Benitez signed a memorandum of agreement on Tuesday to kickstart this new phase.
Under SUN PH 2, ADB will provide $1 million in grants for training workers in sectors such as creative industry, agri-based industries, renewable energy, logistics and supply chain, IT-BPM, construction, and tourism across priority regions.
The first phase of the program trained 671 workers from June 2021 to December 2023, with nearly half being women. SUN PH 2 aims to train an additional 858 workers, including 604 females.
Phase 2 will further scale its impact by targeting more regions and additional sectors such as renewable energy, particularly electric vehicles, logistics and supply chain, and bamboo industry ventures.
