AboitizPower starts 48MW Nasipit hybrid energy storage project
Aboitiz Power Corporation has commenced construction on a 48-megawatt Nasipit Hybrid Energy Storage System at its oil-fired TMI Mobile 2 plant in Agusan del Norte, set to enhance grid stability.
Therma Marine, Inc., a subsidiary of AboitizPower, initiated the battery energy storage system (BESS) project on Monday and expects it to be operational by the second quarter of 2026.
Ronaldo Ramos, chief operating officer for operated assets at AboitizPower Transition Business Group, highlighted that this BESS will support grid stability and facilitate more renewable energy integration.
AboitizPower previously introduced its first hybrid BESS model with TMI Mobile 1 in Maco, Davao de Oro three years ago.
The company noted that oil-fired power plants paired with BESS technology provide essential ancillary services to maintain grid reliability and stability.
According to the Department of Energy, the Philippines has committed a total of 480 MW of BESS capacity this year and an additional 134 MW in 2026.
