Aboititz takes over BPIA for PHP4.53B expansion

On Monday, June 16, the Aboitiz Group officially took over management of Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) as part of a PHP4.53-billion contract for expansion and modernization.

During a handover ceremony, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) transferred operations to Aboitiz InfraCapital, which aims to increase BPIA's capacity from 2 million to up to 2.5 million passengers annually within two years.

The first set of upgrades at BPIA will include expanding the passenger terminal building and upgrading landside and airside facilities, with initial improvements scheduled for the second half of the year.

With this handover, AIC now manages three key gateways: Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Laguindingan International Airport, and Bohol-Panglao International Airport.

Aboitiz InfraCapital President Cosette V. Canilao emphasized that the project is about more than infrastructure; it aims to enable tourism, empower local economies, and create inclusive growth across the Visayas.
