9 found guilty in 2008 PNB exec kidnapping

A Quezon City court has found nine people guilty of kidnapping Philippine National Bank executive Ramon Murillo in 2008.

The accused were sentenced to reclusion perpetua by the Quezon City Regional Trial Branch 101 on February 18, 2025.

Ramon was abducted on June 3, 2008, while driving his SUV on Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, and was released later that day after negotiations for a ransom of P1 million.

Melvin Dy of the Movement for Restoration of Peace and Order thanked the Department of Justice and the police's Anti-Kidnapping Group for resolving the case after more than 16 years.

Despite the long process, Murillo's family expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, emphasizing that kidnapping will not go unpunished.

The movement urged for faster resolution of such cases to avoid backlogs in the justice system.
