7 suspected NPA members killed in Masbate encounter

Seven suspected NPA members were killed in an armed encounter with government troops in Barangay San Mateo, Uson, Masbate on Sunday.

The firefight lasted about 30 minutes and resulted in the recovery of high-powered firearms by the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army under Joint Task Force Bicolandia.

Recovered items included four M16 rifles, two M203 grenade launchers, one M14 rifle, personal belongings, and subversive documents that provide intelligence on the weakened state of the communist terrorist group.

Dimasalang Mayor Mac Naga suspended classes and work in several villages near where the armed conflict occurred to ensure safety.

The operation is part of the AFP's ongoing intelligence-driven campaign to suppress insurgent activities in the Bicol Region, marking one of the latest actions in its intensified counterinsurgency efforts.

From January 1 to July 24, 2025, the military has recorded the neutralization of 1,005 CTG members and supporters across the country, urging remaining NPA members to take advantage of government reintegration programs for a better future.
