66% of Filipinos support VP Sara Duterte's impeachment trial

According to a recent SWS survey commissioned by Stratbase ADR Institute and Akbayan Party-list Rep. Chel Diokno, 66 percent of Filipinos believe that Vice President Sara Duterte should undergo an impeachment trial.

The survey, conducted from June 25 to 29 among 1,200 adult respondents nationwide, revealed support for the trial was strongest in Metro Manila at 76%, followed by Luzon (69%) and the Visayas (67%), with Mindanao registering the lowest but still significant support at 55%.

Diokno emphasized that this survey is an 'eye opener' indicating that Filipinos are waiting for evidence to be presented in the trial, urging transparency and accountability from all parties involved.

Vice President Duterte has maintained a 'not guilty' plea since the verified impeachment complaint filed by the House of Representatives in February, which gained support from over 200 congressmen.

The Senate is expected to reconvene as an impeachment court on July 29, with a new set of senator-judges to be sworn in, following intense debates and calls for transparency and accountability.
