6 Filipino maids arrested in HK for illegal dentistry

Six Filipinos originally employed as domestic helpers have been arrested in Hong Kong for allegedly operating an unlicensed dental clinic and practicing dentistry without proper authorization.

The Department of Foreign Affairs reported that the individuals were detained by the Hong Kong Immigration Department on August 17 for breaching their conditions of stay.

According to a report from South China Morning Post, the clinic was located in a hidden tenement flat in Sham Shui Po with 13 customers present during the arrests.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac announced that legal aid will be provided to the arrested individuals and visitation rights are being arranged by Philippine agencies.

Philippine officials are coordinating with Hong Kong authorities as an official investigation is ongoing.
