47 Filipino athletes to compete in World Games, aiming for improved medal performance

Forty-seven Filipino athletes, including Wushu star Agatha Wong, Wakeboarding ace Raph Trinidad, and Billiards sensation Rubilen Amit, will compete in the 12th World Games in Chengdu from August 7 to 17.

Wong and Trinidad will serve as flag bearers during the opening ceremony on August 7 at the Tianfu International Convention Center.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino expressed optimism for a significant improvement in medal performance compared to the previous games held in Birmingham in 2022, where the Philippines won only one gold medal.

The delegation includes athletes from various sports such as floorball, dragon boat racing, billiards, karate, kickboxing, powerlifting, jiu-jitsu, sambo, triathlon, wushu, and wakeboarding.

Chef de mission Dr. Jose Raul Canlas will manage the team, which aims for a larger medal haul than previous World Games editions.
